Saratoga The racing season at Saratoga Race Course is in the final stretch, and a weekend of activities will bid farewell to the 2011 meet.
Racing kicked off on Friday, July 22, and wraps up Monday, Sept. 5. The weeks in between were filled with giveaways, theme days and special guests and conclude with a family fun fest and a musical festival. The fun fest is Sunday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Final Stretch Music Festival is Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3 and 4, from 7 to 11 p.m. each day.
The track’s backyard will host all kinds of traditional children’s activities for the fun fest: bounce houses, a climbing wall, pony rides, caricatures and games. Magicians and jugglers will also be on hand. Proceeds from games, pony rides and some other activities will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region.
Sunday also marks the last giveaway of the track season, with people taking home a black long-sleeved T-shirt.
The musical festival, meanwhile, will offer live music at venues throughout the Spa City.
Ellsworth Jones Place, by the City Center, will feature Bluz House Rockers on Saturday night and Annie And The Hedonists on Sunday night. The Collamer parking lot will host Maximum on Saturday night and Solid Smoke on Sunday. Bob Warren and Friends will perform at Adirondack Trust Co. both days, and High Definition Band is booked for Caroline Street both days. Jason Smuckler will be on Division Street both days, while Nick Coluccio performs at Ben and Jerry’s on Saturday, followed by The Mad For Trad Pan Celtic Session on Sunday.
