The Bethlehem hockey team needed a late goal by Joey Verstandig to edge LaSalle 4-3 in Tuesday's Capital District High School Hockey League game at the Bethlehem Area YMCA.
LaSalle's Peter Hamlin scored on a power play with 9:05 left in the third period to tie the game at 3 before Verstandig tallied with 5:03 left to put Bethlehem back in the lead.
Verstandig assisted on John Gosstola's goal late in the first period that gave Bethlehem a 1-0 lead. Anthony DeMarte then tied the game at 1 for LaSalle with 14 seconds left in the opening period. DeMarte scored again with less than five minutes left in the second period to give the Cadets a 2-1 lead, but Sam Vincent struck for a short-handed goal less than two minutes later to tie the game for the Eagles.
Chris Caswell tallied early in the third period to put Bethlehem ahead 3-2 before Hamlin scored his power play goal for LaSalle.
Bethlehem goaltender Kevin Cooley made 15 saves to pick up the victory, while LaSalle's Ryan Franceschi stopped 19 shots.
In other CDHSHL action Tuesday, Guilderland/Mohonasen picked up its first win of the season by edging South Glens Falls/Hudson Falls 2-1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
South Glens Falls/Hudson Falls scored in the first period to take a 1-0 lead, but Shane Shields tallied in the second period to tie the game for Guilderland/Mohonasen. Ryan Ghizzoni then put the Dutch Warriors ahead by scoring on a third-period penalty shot.
Guilderland/Mohonasen goaltender Nigel Simmons made 27 saves.
