continued Organizers are hoping the event will grow to become similar to Saratoga’s Chowder Fest, which sees the downtown area swell with people every February. Ellms said certain hotels participating in the event will offer shuttle services and taxi services will be made available as well for those who partake.
“This is a great event for those who want to get into the business, learn new beers or learn how to brew,” said Ellms. “Friday will feature a home brewing presentation and we’ll actually be brewing beer. The size of the event and time of the year has allowed us to reach out to bigger brewers to participate and show their stuff.”
He said Andy Schwartz, head brew master for Red Hook, Widmer, Kona and Goose Island, has agreed to come, as well as the owner and head brewer of Old Bernside Brewery in Hartford, Conn., and Rick Davidson from Davidson Brewery. Olde Saratoga Brewery will also participate in the event. With these professionals, event-goers will be able to learn the trade while learning the difference between different beer varieties.
Garofano said for the tourism bureau, the event is about filling hotel rooms outside of the racing season.
