Shaker shuts down Liverpool to reach state semifinals

Now with a 3-0 lead, Breen promptly allowed Liverpool's Shawn Peake to single to open the bottom of the sixth. Taking no chances, Frank relieved Breen, bringing in Gardella, his relief specialist. Frank said that Breen threw a lot of pitches in his outing and that Gardella, fully rested, was ready for a long stint.

Gardella struck out Pat Wright, but Andrew Schreyack doubled down the left-field line. With runners on second and third, Gardella calmly got Tyler Bliss and Corbin Gapski to ground out, which scored a run, but ended the threat.

More nervous moments came in the seventh, when Gardella hit Luke Fischetti to lead off. But he struck out Nick Pilotti, got Caruso to hit into a force play and Mike Parsons to fly out, clinching the Blue Bison's regional crown.

And as Breen put it "we're not done." Indeed, Shaker now heads to Union-Endicott High School, just west of Binghamton, to face Horseheads or Kingston in Saturday's 1 p.m. semifinal. The winner of that game gets Carey (Section VIII) or Victor (Section V) in the championship game at 4 p.m.""
