Bethlehem Central High School graduate Roxanne Wegman placed first in the women's collegiate division at the Austin Half Ironman triathlon Oct. 23 in Texas.
Wegman -- competing with the West Point triathlon team -- completed the event in a time of 4 hours, 51:59 to win the national collegiate championship and place 14th out of 717 competitors overall. She defeated two professional Ironman competitors along the way.
The Half Ironman consisted of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run.
This is the first year that Wegman, a former cross country runner at Bethlehem, has competed in triathlons.
