continued The online trail map will also be useful for planners, said Trabka.
“It will be useful for planners and towns to kind of see all the trails in one map. You can see where the gaps are and what we need to fill in to make the connections,” said Trabka.
Trabka said she hopes the public will find enjoying the nature of Saratoga County easier with this new resource.
“All the people who live here who like to get out and do something outdoors will be able to see where it is that they can go and then all our visitors to the area who are coming in will also be able to look up places to go out and go bicycling or rollerblading or where to use their kayaks,” said Trabka. “We field an awful lot of calls at our organization.”
Saratoga P.LA.N. is always looking for volunteers to get involved and help develop new trails, said Trabka.
“If people are interested in getting involved in helping to create and plan more trails in the county there’s quite a lot of volunteer opportunities available for both planning and designing and building trails,” said Trabka.
So far, the organization has developed major trails like Spring Run Trail, Railroad Trail, Bog Meadow Trail and the Zim Smith Trail.
“We hope to keep expanding our trail system so there are places to have fun, places to get fit, places to use for transportation,” said Trabka.
In addition to saratogaplan.org, the online trail map is also available through New York State GIS Clearinghouse at www.nysgis.state.ny.us.
