“That wasn’t our plan to have the backs sit in, but the wind picked up in the second half and that helped [Queensbury],” said Gregg. “I think we took the foot off the pedal a little too much in the second half.”
Saturday’s win capped a series of Mohonasen victories over Foothills Council competition that started with last weekend’s victory over Scotia-Glenville. The Mighty Warriors defeated Glens Falls 4-0 in the semifinals before besting Queensbury for the title.
“We know that playing in the Suburban Council, we can force our style of play on other teams [from different leagues],” said Gregg.
Mohonasen’s reward for winning the Section II title is a return trip to Colonie High School for Wednesday’s regional game against Section III champion East Syracuse-Minoa.
