Spartans run over Cornwall in Class A semifinal

Ruppel nearly had a third touchdown in the waning seconds of the second quarter. On third-and-goal from the Cornwall 5-yard line, Ruppel ran through a large hole in the middle of the line and was about to enter the end zone when he was hit hard at the goal line by a Green Dragon defender.

That mattered little to the Spartans. McDonnell simply took the next snap and dove across the goal line for BH-BL's third touchdown of the period. His extra point made the score 21-0, which put Cornwall in a hole that it couldn't climb out of.

Porter contributed a 45-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Ruppel added an 11-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to seal BH-BL's victory and its third state championship game berth in the last four years.

"It's just one of the best feelings of my high school career right now," said Ruppel, who rushed for more than 200 yards in consecutive playoff games.
