Fire co. snags hot grant

— “It has to be fair and thought out,” said Shaw. “This is one of those things that will promote the passage of a local ordinance.”

The live burn will be a one-time thing, with no money left over from the grant for a second demonstration.

“I’ve considered it before but the cost of it has been to the point we didn’t have the money in our budget to do it,” said Shaw.

Sprinkler systems can be installed by the builder of a home, or the HFSC has contractors it can recommend.

The fire company is also recruiting new volunteers to fill positions of firefighter, scene support, organizational management, maintenance and business and administrative positions. Those interested in volunteering should contact Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company at 584-6155.
