COLONIE A collective dream came a little closer to coming true with a groundbreaking celebration for the new Rumors Salon and Spa on Friday, Nov. 18, at 626 New Loudon Road in Latham, sponsored by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s a dream come true. It’s a lot of hard work and effort for the last 25 years of being in business,” said Marri Aviza, president of Rumors.
Rumors, Rumors IV Men and Rumors corporate office are currently housed in space leased at Newton Plaza and Newton Plaza II, but in April 2012, all three will combine to become the new Rumors Salon and Spa in a 10,000-square-foot facility.
“We’re really excited about creating a world-class salon and spa right here in the Capital Region,” said Aviza. “We’ve worked with designers from around the country to help us get this vision into place.”
Aviza and her business partner, Lisa Norgrove, have spent the past three years researching and touring salons and spas around the country and world.
“We traveled … to ask them information about best practices and to see for ourselves, with our own eyes, what they look like,” said Aviza.
Rumors has focused on hair, beauty education and some salon services through the years but with a new building and a carefully selected team, the new Rumors will offer a far more expansive menu of spa services.
“It will bring the best, most talented and professional team moving forward,” said Aviza, adding she’s in the middle of recruiting and interviewing. “It will be twice as big as what we have now … there will be a lot more spa environment to it. We want to create an environment that renews and refreshes and regenerates our clients.”
Taking the leap to purchase a building and upgrade the business is risky, said Aviza, but worth it on many fronts.
