Using its ground game, M-E used up clock. Going for it on a crucial fourth-and-five at BH-BL’s 39 with less than two minutes left, Gallagher scrambled 10 yards for a first down, and Sorrenti followed with a 29-yard TD run with 43 seconds left.
BH-BL did stop the two-point attempt, and still had a fleeting hope in the waning seconds. Once again, though, M-E’s defense stepped up, sacking McDonnell on first down and making the final stop.
Shell said that M-E’s outstanding punts throughout the game put his team in poor field position, but Dillon said the cause of this crushing defeat was far more simple.
“In the end, they wanted it more than us,” said Dillon.
