Shen volleyball team ties for third

Brovich leads Plainsmen at Penfield Tournament

The Shenendehowa boys volleyball team finished in a tie for third place at Monday’s Penfield Tournament outside Rochester.

The Plainsmen finished second out of 18 teams in pool play and reached the semifinals of the playoff round before losing to Massapequa in the semifinals 30-25. Victor, the top-ranked Class A team in New York, won the tournament by beating No. 6 Massapequa in the finals.

Shen split its two pool play games against Victor. The Blue Devils won the first game 25-23, and the Plainsmen took the second game 25-20.

Shen’s Alex Brovich was named to the all-tournament team along with Penfield’s Cody Wiktorski, Massapequa’s Matt Hussman and Mike Christian, and Victor’s Chris Mahan and Matt Delong. Victor’s Mike Ellison was named the Penfield Tournament’s most valuable player.
