LETTER: Town employee says service a priority

Editor, The Spotlight:

I’d like to introduce myself to those new to the Town or those that I haven’t had to opportunity to meet. I am running for re-election as your the Receiver of Taxes and am asking you to consider if I am the most qualified for this position.

I’ve been entrusted with the Receiver of Taxes position for the last 16 years. Ken Hahn, former Receiver of Taxes, brought me into the Tax Office as a clerk and taught me how to serve the public with respect and attention to detail. As your Receiver, I have stayed current with the ever changing NYS laws and I have been a leader of the Empire State Collectors & Receivers Association. I am now the Executive Director of District 9 for the NYS Receivers & Collectors Association.

I grew up as a Glenmont girl and have lived in the Town most of my life . I graduated Bethlehem Central and Hudson Valley. I raised my family in this town and now live with my husband Rich (Albany County Legislator in District 36) with our two Shih Tzus in Selkirk.

In my tenure as your Receiver, I have established a convenient outside payment box, began Saturday hours before tax deadlines, established auto-pay payments for tax & water payments, reduced staffing costs over the last 16 years, and through automation have increased quicker service & information availability.

I am dedicated & involved in our community. I am the Past President & Treasure of the Bethlehem Business Women’s Group, a Planner of the Bethlehem Riverfest Festival, a Republican Committeeperson and a Volunteer for Meal-on-wheels, Bethlehem Grange Dinners, Community Christmas Dinners & Hazardous Waste Day.

I am proud of the work that my co-workers and I provide and I would appreciate your consideration of trusting me with your money and this responsibility for another 4 years. Please call me at 767-0511 or email me at nanmendick@aol.com if you have any questions or concerns. I hope to meet you as I knock on doors in the Town. Thank you,

Nancy Medick
