Jackson lifts Spartans past Scotties

Blake Jackson's goal three minutes into the first overtime period gave Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake a 2-1 victory over Ballston Spa in Thursday's Suburban Council North Division boys soccer game.

Tim Hughes scored with less than 15 minutes left in the first half to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Connor Preece tallied his division-high 16th goal of the season midway through the second half to tie the game at 1 for the Scotties before Jackson struck in overtime for BH-BL.

In other Suburban Council North Division boys soccer action, Niskayuna needed overtime to defeat Saratoga Springs 2-1.

Brandon Pollock scored in the first half for the Silver Warriors, while Eli Sterngass tallied the equalizer for the Blue Streaks in the second half. Ian Cutting wound up with the game-winning goal in overtime for Niskayuna.

Girls soccer

Guilderland maintained its one-game lead over Bethlehem in the Suburban Council South Division girls soccer standings with Thursday's 6-0 victory over Averill Park.

Jess Capone scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Lady Dutch (11-2-2). Lauren Kogelman, Kara Carmen, Lexi Fehervari and Michaela Bianca also tallied, and Ali Cardinal added two assists.

Guilderland had an 18-7 advantage in shots on goal against Averill Park (0-13-2).

Bethlehem (10-3-2) kept pace with Guilderland by beating Mohonasen 4-1 Thursday evening in Rotterdam.

Tara Teal had two goals, and Briana Swete contributed two assists for the Lady Eagles. Jackie Kearney and Cassie Smith also scored, and goaltender Katie Nickles made 11 saves.

Tiara Krusinski tallied Mohonasen's lone goal, and goalie Kelly O'Brien had six saves.

Girls tennis

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake advanced to the Section II Class A girls tennis team finals by beating Albany Academy 5-2 in Thursday's semifinal match.

The Lady Spartans won both doubles matches and took three of the five singles matches to earn their berth in the finals.
