BETHLEHEM Editor, The Spotlight:
When I first saw that both Republican and Democrat political leaders were endorsing the same person, I couldn’t believe it. Ever since I lived in Bethlehem, I had choices in voting for the town board and supervisor. Why did the party leaders think we did not want to have a say in our town leadership?
Fortunately, a superbly qualified person agreed to challenge the person chosen by the party leadership for town supervisor. I spoke with John Clarkson and was impressed with his experience in local government, his promise to provide an open and accountable government, and his demeanor. I applaud him for being willing to take up this challenge.
It is incumbent on each of us to attend the candidate debate at the Bethlehem Town Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and vote in the September 13 primary if a registered Democrat.
When you look at the credentials of the two candidates, I’m confident you will vote for Clarkson for our next supervisor.
