CAPITAL DISTRICT The Section II girls swimming season started Wednesday with victories by Ballston Spa and Bethlehem.
Ballston Spa dominated its duel meet with Shaker as the Scotties posted a 100-75 victory, while Bethlehem eased past Guilderville 99-83.
Stefani Schmitz and Karly Haraden each won two individual events for Ballston Spa in its meet at Shaker. Schmitz finished first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, while Haraden took first place in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle.
The Walkowiak sisters also contributed to Ballston Spa's victory. Addison Walkowiak won the diving competition, while Paris Walkowiak finished first in the 100-yard butterfly. Julie DeGuardi added a victory in the 200-yard freestyle for the Scotties.
Kristen Moras took first place in the 100-yard backstroke for Shaker.
At Voorheesville High School, Bethlehem jumped out to a 90-49 lead before pulling back against Guilderville.
Lauren Zemering paced the Lady Eagles with victories in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles. Grace Ayer (50-yard freestyle), Kessler Thompson (diving), Bethany Powhida (100-yard butterfly) and Haley Goodrich (500-yard freestyle) contributed individual victories.
Jenna Bickel had victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke for Guilderville.
Elsewhere in Section II, Shenendehowa began its season with a 104-77 win against Saratoga Springs.
Julia and Olivia Samson each won two events for the Plainswomen. Julia Samson had victories in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while Olivia Samson finished first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle.
Katherine Orr (50-yard freestyle), Emma Rupert (500-yard freestyle) and Susie Schwarz (100-yard backstroke) also earned individual victories for Shen.
Melissa Boyd took first place in the diving competition for Saratoga Springs.
