Guilderland boys, Nisky girls sweep dual meet

Turek, Malecki pick up individual wins

— The Guilderland boys and Niskayuna girls cross country teams picked up two wins apiece at Tuesday's dual meet with Colonie at Iroquois Middle School.

The Guilderland boys defeated Colonie 20-41 and Niskayuna 22-37 to pick up two Suburban Council wins. Niskayuna defeated Colonie 23-32 in the other head-to-head team match-up.

Guilderland's Nico Turek led the pack with a first-place time of 17:25.83. Niskayuna's Niall Williams was second with a time of 17:37.91, and Guilderland's Austin Miller placed third with a time of 17:38.79. Colonie's Jon Homes (fourth place, 17:55.64) and Niskayuna's Greg Thomas (fifth, 18:10.00) rounded out the top five finishers in the boys race.

The Niskayuna girls pulled out a 24-31 victory over Colonie and a 22-33 win against Guilderland in the dual meet. Colonie edged Guilderland 25-31.

Colonie's Jackie Malecki took top honors among individual female runners with a winning time of 20:19.90. Niskayuna's Felicia Sciortino was second with a time of 20:40.95, and Guilderland's Christina Herkenham placed third with a time of 20:42.07. Niskayuna's Shannon Trant (fourth, 20:46.73) and Guilderland's Jenna Robinson (fifth, 20:59.86) also placed in the top five.
