FEMA to close Voorheesville office

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today that its Disaster Recovery Center in Voorheesville would close on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

The office, located at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 24 Martin Road, was open for almost three weeks. Residents affected by Tropical Storm Irene were able to gather information and advice there, and also register with FEMA for disaster aid.

"We keep our disaster recovery centers open until we feel they are no longer critical in a given area," said Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr in a statement. "Hurricane Irene left a huge amount of damage in its wake, quickly followed by Tropical Storm Lee. FEMA has to deploy people where they are needed most and often to places where we are still addressing serious problems."

Affected residents can still register with FEMA at disasterassistance.gov.
