South Division
Averill Park Warriors
Head coach: Mike Conroy
Returning players: Dylan Sprague (senior INF/P), Greg Hotaling (junior P/OF), Joe Marino (senior P/3B)
Top newcomers: Devin VanderVoort (sophomore P/OF), Ben Reinisch (sophomore INF), Josh Durand (junior OF), Sam Beaulac (sophomore utility), Tyler Childrose (sophomore P/1B)
Outlook: The Warriors return only three starters from last year’s team that reached the Section II Class A semifinals, so Conroy said the newcomers will need to adjust quickly.
“We’ve got some very good young players that need to experience some early success to gain confidence,” said Conroy.
Bethlehem Eagles
Head coach: Rob Helm
Returning players: Mike Carrk (senior P), David Miller (junior P), Eric Mueller (junior OF), Sam Wander (senior OF), Brendan Behan (senior C), Josh Peterson (senior 3B), Jasper Marynczak (senior 1B)
Outlook: The Eagles are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2011 season with seven returning players and a group of talented juniors up from a junior varsity squad that finished 15-2 last year. Helm said that Carrk and Miller should lead the pitching staff, while Mueller (.560 batting average last year) is an NCAA Division I prospect in center field.
Colonie Garnet Raiders
Head coach: Kevin Halburian
Returning players: Dave Monin (OF), Jeremy Hoffman (P), Brendon DiLello (OF), Trevor Taranto (1B), Vincent Tashjian (2B)
Top newcomers: Jeff Bink (SS), Nick Powers (OF/P), Collen Schlutow (3B), Kyle Ruth (2B), Jason Roddy (3B), Ben Contento (3B/P), Ray Schott (C), Mike McKay (C)
Outlook: The Garnet Raiders graduated 12 players from last year’s Sectional runner-up squad, but Halburian said he has a good group of players coming up from the junior varsity team. Powers, Contento and Andrew Serafino will join Hoffman on the pitching staff, while Monin (second team all-league player in 2011) will be among the offensive leaders.
Columbia Blue Devils
Head coach: Chris Dedrick
