Boys lacrosse: Ball control helps Shen beat Burnt Hills

Second-quarter spurt gives Plainsmen needed cushion

— A similar opportunity presented itself to BH-BL midway through the third quarter when Shen was called for two penalties on one possession. Again, the Spartans failed to score -- this time, the Plainsmen forced a turnover in front of the goal and picked up the loose ball. Shen rode out the final 30 seconds of the penalty kill, aided by a BH-BL penalty that created only a 5-on-4 advantage.

Rogers struck for his third goal of the afternoon later in the third quarter to give Shen a 10-6 cushion. Rogers and Edick then tallied in the fourth quarter to seal the Plainsmen's victory.

Rogers finished with a team-high four goals, while Edick contributed a hat trick for Shen. Romano added two goals and three assists.

"I just felt good today, and my teammates did a great job of clearing through so that I had some open looks," said Rogers, who scored 11 goals in Shen's first eight games.

"Both of them (Rogers and Edick) did a great job of moving through, and Michael Jenkins did a great job of running the offense," said Holohan.

Hiss and Kenneally each scored three goals, and Carter made 16 saves for BH-BL.

"We definitely thought at 4-4 and 8-6 that we could do some good things, but give (Shen) credit" said Schwan. "Every goal that we scored, they answered with one or two goals."
