Even taking the source of the study into account, those numbers lay bare a problem. In fact, the United States is contributing to brain drain in other countries by hiring up their bright workers for jobs here that Americans just aren’t up to snuff for.
We write about this as kids across the country prepare to head back to school. And especially for the older students out there, career path and opportunities are always at the forefront (or perhaps the back) of one’s mind.
Our leaders today are desperately searching for ways to attract students to the high-impact but high-reward fields of science and technology. Maybe it’s as easy as reminding our kids they really can shoot lasers in space one day.
