continued “It is a very convenient format and it is has proven to be very popular with our costumers,” Wertz said. “It allows people that are pressed for time to get in and out and complete their shopping more quickly. We find the neighborhood markets work very well in combination with our supercenters.”
Wertz said stores are designed to meet the needs of each community, but a majority of the selection remains the same nationwide.
“You are going to find some minor differences between what we have in Niskayuna and other area stores, but not a big difference,” he said.
Niskayuna recently welcomed another new grocery store the area, ShopRite, which took over the former St. James Square. Familiar area staples are also present, including Price Chopper and Hannaford. Near ShopRite Square is also the Niskayuna Co-op market, which offers many local and specialty items. Target in Mohawk Commons also added grocery items to its store.
Berkshire Bank is slated to take over the former Stanford Mansion. The mansion was moved twice, with the original location putting the historic home at the center of the property. Development of the site was met with legal challenges before the mansion was moved for the first time to preserve it as part of the shopping center.
