Andrew Carroll's hat trick propelled Bethlehem to a 4-1 win against Christian Brothers Academy in Saturday's Capital District High School Hockey League game at the Albany County Hockey Facility in Colonie.
Evan Van Epps gave CBA (9-7-0 league, 9-10-1 overall) a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Jon Clark responded with a goal to tie the game at 1. Carroll then struck twice later in the opening stanza to put Bethlehem (9-3-0, 14-5-0) in front to stay.
Goaltender Kevin Cooley made 18 saves to help the Eagles move into a three-way tie with CBA and Shaker/Colonie for third place in the CDHSHL Division I standings. All three teams have 14 standings points entering the final week of the regular season. Kyle Stockman stopped 24 shots for the Brothers.
In non-league action, Shaker/Colonie saw a 3-2 lead disappear in a 5-3 loss to Saranac Lake in Lake Placid.
Mike Mineau scored twice, and Joey Chiara added a goal and an assist for the Jets, whose overall record fell to 7-10-2.
Colonie's Giancarlo Sainato set a new Section II record in the boys 600-meter race at Saturday's Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory.
Sainato finished fourth overall in the race with a time of 1:19.97.
On the collegiate track front, two former Section II stars ran IC4A meet qualifying times for the University at Albany at Saturday's New Balance Invitational in New York City.
Scotia-Glenville graduate Peter Rowell earned bids in the men's 500- and 800-meter races, while Shenendehowa grad Alex Leuchanka qualified in the 3,000-meter event.
Saratoga Springs graduate Brianne Bellon earned an ECAC meet bid in the women's 1,000-meter race.
