continued There are plenty of other chocolaty treats popular on the holiday of love. All three candy shops said they’re known for their chocolates and truffles, which can bought prepackaged or customized to order.
“The most popular is almond butter crunch, homemade toffee in milk or dark chocolate with roasted almonds on top,” said Martoccio, adding Krause’s assortment of truffles, creams, caramels and more interesting creations like potato chip clusters are also big sellers.
Krause’s offers smaller heart-shaped boxes, a quarter pound, all the way up to 8-pound hearts for the serious sweet tooth.
At Candy Kraft Candies, it’s all about the cream filled chocolates.
“We have blueberry, cherry, pineapple, pistachio, strawberry, vanilla butter, butter,” said Pikcilingis.
The store also has five different types of caramels, jellies, fudge, nuggets and lollipops in the shape of hearts, cherubs, teddy bears — you name it. Candies can be purchased in 2-ounce to 5-pound heart shaped boxes.
The Candy Company of Saratoga Springs is known for its fudge, said Oesch, and boasts 18 flavors.
“The most popular is chocolate peanut butter,” said Oesch.
Chocolate covered pretzels are also a fun and unique twist on Valentine’s Day candy.
“It’s a giant pretzel with dark chocolate,” said Oesch. “We sell tons of them.”
Each shop starts preparing for the holiday right after the Christmas season, whether it’s ordering chocolate or preparing the molds.
“We use the highest quality chocolate, never skimp, it’s always fresh cream and butter and a lot of taste testing to make sure the quality is always top notch,” said Martoccio.
