Bassett's goal proves to be game winner for Brothers

John Bassett's goal with 5:17 left in the third period lifted Christian Brothers Academy to a 4-2 victory over Bethlehem in Tuesday's Section II Division I hockey quarterfinal game at the Bethlehem Area YMCA.

RJ Diego netted the tying goal for No. 4 Bethlehem (15-6-0) less than six minutes into the third period before Bassett's one-man effort gave No. 5 CBA (10-10-1) a 3-2 lead. Zach Swantek added an empty-net goal with seven seconds left to seal the victory.

Bassett finished with a pair of goals, and goaltender Dakota Smith made 31 saves for the Brothers, who advance to the semifinals against either No. 1 Saratoga Springs or No. 8 LaSalle. Dean McMahon added two assists.
