Taking care of the trash is usually dirty business, but Junk King would be the exception to that rule.
Todd Porter’s Capital District franchise, based in Ravena, opened in October but is already turning the junk removal business on its head by providing full-service collection that’s clean in every way.
Junk King will not only whisk away your unwanted clutter in a clean, biodiesel-powered truck, but about 60 percent of what the company takes is recycled, not sent to the dump.
For Porter, who worked in a Manhattan law office for 13 years, that’s the crux of why he opened a Junk King franchise in the first place.
“That’s why I went into this business, is to be green and save things from going into a landfill,” Porter said. “Almost everything imaginable is recyclable to some degree.”
A lot of people might think the best way to go about a big cleaning job would be to plop a roll-off dumpster down in the driveway. But for what is often a lower cost, a Junk King team will do all the hard work for you and get rid of the clutter immediately.
Remarkably, Junk King is able to go to these extra lengths because of the pains its employees take to recycle as much as possible. Porter explained his biggest expense is tipping fees at the landfill. By saving material from the garbage heap, he saves a heap of cash that can be passed along to the customer in the form of lower prices or better service.
And Junk King’s team is a lot more helpful than an immobile trash bucket. Porter describes his employees as clean cut, background checked and well trained.
“I’m trying to bring white-collar professionalism to a blue-collar industry,” he said.
