“We knew Erickson was that kind of kid,” said Holmes. “He makes tough shots at tough times when his team needs him the most.”
A David Morrison free throw gave Shaker another slim lead before Erickson once again tried to drive to the basket. Erickson drew the foul, but this time he only made one of his two foul shots to tie the score at 58. It was Erickson’s first and only missed foul shot of the night.
That gave Hall and the Blue Bison the opening they sought. Hall stopped and popped a soft jump shot in the lane that swished through the net to put Shaker ahead 60-58. Hall then grabbed a missed LaSalle three-point shot at the other end and drew a foul with 5.5 seconds left. Hall made the front end of his two foul shots to give the Blue Bison their margin of victory.
Morrison contributed 12 points as Shaker controlled the low post against LaSalle. Erickson led all scorers with 22 points, and Elijah Burns added 14 points for LaSalle.
The Blue Bison advance to Thursday’s Class AA semifinal against Troy, which defeated Bethlehem in another Sectional quarterfinal contest Saturday.
