— Jaclyn Welch ended Catholic Central’s threat in the final minute. Welch stole the ball and hit a layup to put Colonie back up by five points, and the Lady Raiders never looked back.

“They shot the ball very well in the second half, but we held our composure, which was nice,” said Colonie coach Heather Fiore.

Welch had a big game for Colonie, as she scored a game-high 25 points and added several steals. Sydnie Rosales added 15 points in the victory.

“She played very well offensively and defensively,” Fiore said of Welch.

The Colonie-Shaker Sectional semifinal is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hudson Valley Community College. The winner advances to Saturday’s championship game against either Shen or Big 10 champion Albany.
