Legion post much more than a bar

Nathaniel Blanchard Post a major part of the community

Besides reaching out into the community as a whole, the Legion is a veterans group, and as such members go to great lengths to support other veterans and active military personnel. The Nathaniel Blanchard Post works closely with local Veterans Affairs officials to find ways to help out.

“We’re getting even more involved in the community, but we’re

still very active in supporting the veterans administration and veterans in the hospital,” said post Finance Officer Joe VanDerloo. “Anything they need, if we find out about it, we try to help out.”

The post regularly provides comfort items like DVD players to veterans who are in the hospital, and members of the Ladies Auxiliary often ship handmade clothing items to members of

the military serving overseas. This past summer, the Ladies Auxiliary teamed with other posts to organize baby showers for pregnant veterans

who needed a little extra help.

For those who are interested in learning more about the post, a good place to start would be its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser, which will be held Sunday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. Besides enjoying the food, diners can

know their money will likely be sent right back out into the community.

For more information on the post, visit www.nabpost1040.us or call 439-9819. The Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040 is located at 16 West Poplar Drive in Delmar.
