A political party committee ought to consistently cast a wide net throughout the community to find talented and capable candidates for office. Regrettably, the Bethlehem Democrat Committee appears to be little more than an insular, out-of-touch, self-promoting apparatus that limits its candidate lists to its own officers and then reflexively stamps its unanimous endorsement on every candidate. These practices place party unity over worthy debate, and repeatedly leave voters without a choice.
Bethlehem doesn’t need “do over” representatives like Mr. Cunningham who had an opportunity to lead in a time of crisis-- but failed. On primary day (Sept, 13), thanks to the efforts of Bethlehem Reform Democrats, Bethlehem Democrats will have a capable alternative candidate for Town Board-- Bill Reinhardt.
