Baseball: Dutchmen edge Elmira at home

Will Remillard's three-run HR highlights victory

— The Albany Dutchmen got off to a good start and hung on for a 6-5 victory over Elmira in Saturday's Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game at Bellizzi Field.

Latham native Will Remillard belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to help the Dutchmen (5-3) grab an early lead. Elmira (0-8) rallied several times, but the Pioneers couldn't catch the Dutchmen.

Starting pitcher David Stagg scattered five hits and struck out nine batters in 5.1 innings of work to pick up the victory for Albany. Cody White pitched out of a bases-loaded jam later on, and Ricky Schafer tossed two innings of relief to earn the save.

Kendall Konopka doubled and singled for Elmira. Konopka also made a catch in center field to rob Remillard of a double.

Albany hosts PGCBL newcomer Oneonta Sunday at 5 p.m.
