— A man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in August 2011 faces up to 24 years to life in jail after pleading guilty to murder in the second degree on Friday, March 9, according to information from Albany County District Attorney David Soares' office.

Rupert Alberga, 30, pleaded guilty to the felony charge in accordance with a plea agreement, according to information from Soares' office.

Alberga stabbed his girlfriend to death with a knife on the night of Aug. 20, 2011, in the Super 8 Motel on Central Avenue in the Town of Colonie, according to information from Soares' office.

“Rupert Alberga will spend the best years of his life behind bars for taking the life of someone he was in a relationship with. There are many women in abusive relationships and confront danger every day. Cases like this should serve as a reminder to batterers that consequences are severe but also that help is available to victims,” said Soares in a statement.
