Girls basketball: Stewart leads C-NS past Colonie in regional

UConn-bound senior scores 28 points in 19-point victory

— Stewart's point production slowed down in the third quarter, but her defensive skills shined. The Connecticut-bound senior forward stole the ball three times and added two blocked shots as the Northstars pulled away to a 30-point lead. Stewart finished the game with 12 rebounds and four blocked shots to go along with the three steals.

"They (Colonie) started out hot, but we knew we would just have to stay the course," said CNS coach Eric Smith. "That's what makes Breanna (Stewart) such a great player. When she isn't scoring, she is coming up big on defense."

Ashley Loggins was the only Colonie player to score in double digits. She finished with 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

"We played our hearts out," said Loggins. "We worked to slow her (Stewart) down, but we just couldn't. She's an amazing player. If we had to lose, I wouldn't have wanted to lose to anybody else."
