South Colonie diamond picked for ValleyCats program

Minors division field will be renovated with help from NY-Penn League team

— A field at the South Colonie Youth Baseball Complex on Exchange Street is going to get a professional makeover next month.

The minors division field is one of four chosen by the Tri-City ValleyCats to be refurbished as part of the New York-Penn League organization’s annual “4 in 24” renovation program.

“Having been chosen by the Tri-City ValleyCats is extremely special for our league,” said South Colonie Youth Baseball co-presidents Brian Manion and Mike Cole in a state-ment. “The renovation will allow these kids to play on a state-of-the-art field, just like the ValleyCats players they enjoy going to see play ball at Joe Bruno Stadium.”

The minor division field will have new infield sod laid down, and the pitcher’s mound and home plate area will be re-built in less than 24 hours with the help of the ValleyCats and local volunteers.

Cambridge, Coxsackie and Waterford little leagues were the other sites chosen for the project.
