Yet in more than half the districts this publication covers, the race for open school board seats are uncontested. In some cases, no one stepped up to challenge incumbents and in others the incumbents are leaving, but for voters to have a choice at all is the exception rather than the rule.
No one is stepping up to run for these seats, not even the folks who lambast the decisions being made. Perhaps they take a look at the anger that’s being directed at school boards and think twice about running for the thankless job. At any rate, cries of “vote them out,” warranted or not, are going to fall flat because while we all are bonkers about complaining, stepping in and rolling up the sleeves proves to be quite another matter.
