Editorial: Keep the memory alive

Today, that’s all a thing of the past. For the common American, the biggest impact of this nation going to war might be a price fluctuation at the pump. Yet to date, 1,884 U.S. soldiers have died in Afghanistan since 2001 (which makes it the longest running war in American history, by the way) and 4,487 American troops lost their lives in the Iraq War. Tens of thousands more have been wounded.

No matter how you feel about the history of these events or the state of affairs in this nation, it’s impossible to deny the gravity of this history and the remarkable story that’s been written here in such short a time.

So as you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, try to set aside a moment for the original intent of the day and reflect on sacrifices that have been made, and that are still being made, in this American tale.
