— Mendrick, now 12, understands the importance of CPR. He said although he was trained in CPR as a Boy Scout, he hopes he never has to be in a situation where he has to use it himself.

“In the rare cases of what happened to me when someone drops from cardiac arrest, someone needs to know how to use CPR because there’s always that chance that you might save his life and be that person who saved his life,” Mendrick said. “It’s better to be that person who saved his life than the person who didn’t know how to use CPR and didn’t save his life.”
