Editorial: Plan for tomorrow, now

In other words, no one likes a tax hike, but if you’re going to do it, try to limit the impact.

Also making a perfectly valid point earlier this week was Chamber of Schenectady County President Charles Steiner, who pointed out the county’s tenuous economic revival is hardly a sure thing, and more taxes are unlikely to make it any better.

There may well not be a way out of biting the bullet this year, but we hope residents of Schenectady County give their legislators an earful about it. And if when next budget season rolls around things are improved, we hope the county will look down the road a bit further when deciding when taxes should be held and when they should be raised.
