Tuesday round-up: Saratoga beats Shaker for first win

Cadet's free kick in overtime lifts Blue Streaks

In other Suburban Council duel meet action Tuesday, the Saratoga boys team swept the top six places on its way to beating Guilderland and Mohonasen at Tawasentha Park in Guilderland. The Blue Streaks beat Guilderland 15-45 and Mohonasen 15-50, while Guilderland defeated Mohonasen 15-50.

Jay Navin led the Saratoga pack with a winning time of 14:21.52. Guilderland's Knute Armstrong ran the course with a time of 14:49.05, and Mohonasen's Josh Prawdzik finished with a time of 16:30.9.

In the girls' meet, Saratoga runners took the top three places to defeat Guilderland 18-43 and Mohonasen 15-50. Taylor Driscoll paced the Blue Streaks with a time of 15:48.67.

Guilderland earned a split of the three-way duel meet by beating Mohonasen 18-44. Emily Burns led the Lady Dutch with a time of 16:39.34, while Cara Sherman was Mohonasen's top runner with a time of 17:33.23.

Girls swimming

The Shenendehowa girls swim team (8-0) remained undefeated with Tuesday's 95-83 Suburban Council victory over Ballston Spa (6-2).

Six Plainswomen won individual events -- Colleen Luibrand (200-yard freestyle), Susie Schwarz (200 individual medley), Sydney Weiskopf (diving), Emma Rupert (100 butterfly), Julia Samson (100 freestyle) and Jennifer Lucius (500 freestyle). Shen's 200-yard medley relay team also set a Ballston Spa pool record with a winning time of 1:53.01.

Stefani Schmitz (50-yard freestyle), Emma Altieri (100 backstroke) and Haley Canham (100 breaststroke) earned wins for the Scotties.

Field hockey

Scotia-Glenville improved its league record to 3-9 with Tuesday's 2-0 Foothills Council field hockey victory over Gloversville.

Alexis Marcucci and Sierra Plemenik scored goals for the Lady Tartans (3-13 overall) during their annual "Play 4 The Cure" game.
