Shaker's offense slowed down after its initial scoring burst. Griffin had a 12-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and tailback Tyler Oppelt added a 20-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter to increase the Blue Bison's advantage to 34-0.
Ballston Spa (2-6) did what it could to fight back, but all of the turnovers prevented the Scotties from mounting a serious challenge.
"They hung in and battled tonight," said Bowen. "It's the way these guys have done it all year."
The Scotties finally got into the end zone in the final minute of the game when sophomore Matt Hommel broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run.
"It's always nice to not get shut out, but that's a great team over there and we were a bit shorthanded tonight," said Bowen. "We were missing some key players."
Shaker's win gave Sheeler his first Sectional victory and sent the Blue Bison into the Class AA semifinals. Shaker hosts Schenectady Friday for the right to play in next weekend's championship game.
"It means a lot," said Hoey. "It's great to be part of it, but we have to take it one step at a time."
Meanwhile, Ballston Spa concludes its season Friday when it hosts Scotia-Glenville in a crossover game.
"We're going to go out and try to send our seniors out the right way," said Bowen. "That's all we can strive for at this point."
