Monday round-up: Big second half propels Plainsmen

Shen locks up No. 2 seed for Sectionals with win against Burnt Hills

Allison VanDoren led the Lady Dutch with 16 kills, 12 service points with three aces and 12 digs. Quincy Kinzel contributed seven kills, seven service points and 16 assists, and Kayla Myers added three blocks.

Julia Dyer paced Colonie with six kills, 10 service points and two blocks, while Stephanie Reinhardt added three kills, three assists and one ace.

In another Suburban Council match, Shaker defeated Niskayuna 3-2 in Latham. The Blue Bison took the final set 25-18 after splitting the first four sets.

Niskayuna won the first set 25-22 before Shaker grabbed the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-11. The Silver Warriors forced a fifth set by winning the fourth set 25-22.

Field hockey

Scotia-Glenville won its play-in game by beating Gloversville 3-1 in Section II Class B field hockey action Monday.

Alexis Marcucci, Taylor Santabarbara and Molly Kalasinski tallied for the Lady Tartans, who advance to face top-seeded Johnstown in Wednesday's quarterfinal game.
