Letter: Discussion should focus on issues

Editor, The Spotlight:

The recent series of letters relating to the race for the Town Board seat seem to be more a war within the Democratic Party. When dealing with the candidates, most discussions are general and not specific to the issues of the Town. Specifically, how to deal with the budget shortfall, with key issues being tax breaks for retail outlets that reduces the tax base, job shrinkage in local government and how far to take that, reduction of specific services and clearly identify those. Within the cost structure, how do part time workers without health insurance impact on Town costs? In addition, candidate positions on Bethlehem going to a ward system needs addressing. Does the candidate consider this worthy of Board time or should they encourage a citizen petition?

Let’s talk issues rather than which Democratic majority has an actual majority.
