In choosing a candidate, ask yourself whether you want to keep this forward momentum. Going back to a disappointed political insider would have extreme risks for civic debate. We’ve already seen elements of this in recent board meetings as party politics heated up. Consider also that the root causes of the financial challenges Bethlehem faces today go back a number of years, many directly to Bill’s opponent’s term. Pension enrichments were bonded out, fiscal responsibility was given short shrift, and we began borrowing for routine annual expenses like asphalt for repaving. We did not plan and today we are dealing with the financial fallout.
We’ve come too far to see petty politics, posturing, or obstructionism block progress. Bill Reinhardt has no agenda other than to help guide town decisions for the best possible Bethlehem we can have. Let’s move forward, not back.
