“When you go through experiences like that it is difficult to relate to people that haven’t,” he said. “(My wife) wasn’t able to experience those emotions that you go through that are there … A lot of times you don’t want to tell those things to someone you love.”

On Veterans Day last year, Tully announced was stepping down from his position of chief humane law enforcement officer of the Schenectady County SPCA before his scheduled deployment in July. He was the first chief of the local SPCA.

David Dean, former Detective Sergeant for the Troy Police Department, was sworn in as the new chief humane officer for the SPCA at the beginning of January.
