continued — The cost of developing a plan can run several thousands of dollars. The Milton Farmland Protection Committee is seeking a $25,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture and Markets. As of early 2011, 63 municipalities in the state were in the process of writing plans.
The committee also held a public meeting in late August to gather input, but Becker said turnout was poor.
“We had like 13 people show up. We had it in the papers, and sent out notices and sent out 62 letters to people we know are in agriculture,” Becker said.
The committee will continue workshops and hold another public hearing on a future date.
