Road race offers new hope

Success of 5K leads to formation of regional nonprofit venture

— The race will feature digital chip timing, provided by USA Track and Field, and the University at Albany athletics department will once again be providing much of the volunteer labor needed to run the race. Walkers are welcome to participate in the race after the runners step off.

“We are really grateful to the community and the help from the Bethlehem police and Department of Transportation for all of their efforts over the years,” said Mahoney. “They are the unsung heroes of the race.”

The race starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, from the Special Surgery offices at 1220 New Scotland Road. The entry fee for children or teams is $10, while registration for is $25. Online registration closes at midnight on Friday, Sept. 14. For those not running, food and entertainment will be on hand, including the UAlbany step team “Organized C.H.A.O.S.” and the Coccadotts mobile cupcake truck.
