Translation: the status quo in high school just isn’t good enough for the years beyond. Some might argue the Common Core tests are bruising the egos of students. We’d posit that might be part of a badly needed wake-up call.
As we argued back in April, the Common Core Standards are still a flawed, one-size-fits-all approach to education. But this has always been the case with standardized tests. If we’re going to have them, why shouldn’t they be tough and demanding? Things aren’t going to get any easier for Junior in his college fluid dynamics class.
Getting up off the couch is never easy. But one has to make that first step to get anywhere. We have our baseline here in New York. Now we can work on moving the goalposts.
