continued Colonie has a third weapon in tailback Kevon Johnson, who demonstrated his speed in running for 107 yards and two touchdowns in last year’s 34-28 season-opening victory over LaSalle. Roemer said Johnson will get some carries, along with Burt and Edwards.
Who will be throwing the ball is still up in the air, though. Eugene Kupiec and Will McCann are currently battling for the starting quarterback position.
“We have two kids that are fighting for it, and they’re both kids who have started before,” said Roemer.
Colonie begins its season Friday, Sept. 6, when it travels to Liberty Division rival Niskayuna. The Garnet Raiders’ first home game is Friday, Sept. 13, against East Syracuse-Minoa.
