The second-to-last sports poll question of 2013 focuses on high school hockey, where early indications are that defending state champion Saratoga Springs is the local team to beat. We want to know which of these four candidates has the best chance to beat the Blue Streaks, in your opinion.
Bethlehem -- Following an 0-2 start, the Eagles have won three of their last four games, including a pair of Capital District High School Hockey League victories. Their high-flying offense includes seniors Chris Caswell, Andrew Carroll and Zach Flagler.
Glens Falls/Hudson Falls/South Glens Falls -- The newly-created Rivermen combine Glens Falls' long history of Section II hockey success with the best talent from Hudson Falls and South Glens Falls. The Rivermen knocked off Bethlehem in their first league game.
Shaker/Colonie -- The 3-1-0 Jets have one of the top-rated goaltenders in the area in Zach Dignum and an offense rounding into form led by Kevin Egan. Shaker/Colonie gets its chance at Saratoga Friday.
Shenendehowa -- The Plainsmen always seem to be Saratoga's closest competitor, and it could shape up that way again this season with a veteran offense guided by Peter Russo and Kyle Marr. Shen meets Saratoga for the first time Wednesday, with a rematch scheduled for Feb. 5. (UPDATE: Shen and Saratoga tied 3-3 Wednesday. So Shen didn't beat Saratoga, but it didn't lose to the Blue Streaks either.)
With early deadlines on the print end of operations, this poll will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Thurday, Dec. 26.
