continued “I really like it, it’s really fun,” he said of the surface. “You can play tons of games on it.”
The Bethlehem YMCA is one of only a few Y’s nationwide to have such a feature, said Capital District YMCA CEO David Brown. It won’t be rolled out in other local facilities, though, because the Bethlehem branch is the only YMCA in the area with an ice rink.
“This is a great use of this space,” Brown said. “The kids would be in here playing, but they’d be playing on a concrete floor.”
Martin said the installation of the flooring capped a roughly eight-year planning process. It’s part of a larger vision to overhaul the space with new facilities, including possibly a rock climbing wall.
“Now that we have this, the sky’s the limit,” Martin said.
The Bethlehem YMCA’s summer camp program was expanded from nine to 10 weeks this summer. For more information, visit cdymca.org.
